Senior Provider Accounts Receivable - Collections Analyst

The Senior Collections Analyst collaboratively interacts with department management regarding goals, special projects and general information sharing that facilitates a smoothly operating department.

  • Manage and/or approve daily tasks that include financial adjustments, disputed claims analysis, and account reconciliations.
  • Manage letter generation process to providers and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities that can enhance quality and efficiency without sacrificing service.
  • Act as a liaison between the Provider AR team, Claims team, and Accounting teams.
  • Working directly with third-party collections agencies to drive results for uncollectible AR.
  • Directly interact with providers via phone and email to resolve payment disputes.
  • Lead the development and preparation of departmental reporting metrics and analytics.
  • Generate and distribute reporting to direct management and executive leadership.
  • Create and maintain desk level procedure documents.
  • Responsible for sharing information across the team and other business areas to reduce overall financial risk.
  • Document / prioritize system limitations and coordinate with Highmark (or other vendors) / BTS to identify a technical solution or automation opportunity.
  • Self-sufficient in handling escalated interactions with external clients or internal executive leadership.
  • Directly represent the AR team and Independence in all internal/ external meetings which may include off-site visits.
 


  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or business related field is a plus.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the healthcare or health insurance industry.
  • Claims and AR management experience strongly desired.
  • Understanding of claims adjudication and payment is a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in working in a team environment comprised of various levels of talent, experience and motivation. Able to lead/assist their team in achieving department goals.
  • Strong technical ability required to employ and manipulate systems to generate needed reporting, as well as to view team results.
  • Must possess the ability to interface with internal and external customers at various levels.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
  • Demonstrates willingness to step outside normal business tasks to improve processes and reduce financial risk
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload depending on deadlines and client/company impact. Able to make assessments throughout the day to determine how best to meet daily/monthly department and divisional goals.
  • Strongly detail-oriented.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, supervisors, peers and clients.
  • Proficient in Microsoft application with emphasis on Excel.
  • Proven process improvement methodology and driving change management.
  • Experience in completing and reviewing financial reporting.
  • Customer Focused.
